The last shot from the Canvey trip. The lens flare is a consequence of not using a lens hood. I decided to keep it - I quite like the effect. I've just watched the last episode of The Genius of Photography. An enjoyable series. As well as learning about plenty of photographers I was previously unaware of, it was interesting just how many photographers I already know about. In the last episode, they featured Gregory Crewdson. I'm in two minds about Crewdson's work. In many respects I enjoy the end result, but my feelings towards the photos are ultimately compromised by the knowledge that the scenes are staged. This isn't entirely logical as much of photography is staged to some extent. Perhaps, with Crewdson's photographs, it's not just the staging, it's that the results present some kind of hyper-reality that is ultimately false? Then again, many might argue that the warm tones of today's photo are similarly disingenuous. |
